henry x fem!reader

[Name] yawned and put away her Arcthunder tome. The day was coming to an end and fatigue was over the whole camp now. The Shepherds fought a whole pack of Risen right before turning in. Almost everyone just rested up, forgetting about the bear stew that Cherche had cooked ever so kindly.

“Psst! [Name],” Henry cooed from behind her tent. “I want to show you something!”

The tired tactician’s eyes were heavy from exhaustion. She turned her head and looked at the dark mage with annoyance and slight… fear. Or maybe she was used to his unusual behaviour by now.

“It’s not another...disembodied Risen arm, is it?”

“Nya ha! Nah, ‘course not. I got rid of that thing. It’s something else,” Henry held out his hand for her to take, which she reluctantly complied to.

“You’re not tricking me, are you Henry? You know I don’t like creepy things…” [Name] muttered.

Henry stopped in his tracks and turned to give her the sincerest look he could muster. “Would I trick you, [Name]?”

“Uh, yes. You do it all the time.” she looked back into his eyes, a deadpan look on her features.

“Eheh… Well I’m not tricking you this time, so just follow me.” [Name] couldn’t help a light blush that seeped to the surface of her cheeks. Henry was holding her hand. She’d never admit it aloud, but [Name] had become slightly infatuated with the creepy mage. He had his quirks, for sure, but something about him made her heart flutter. Maybe it was his lame puns? Or how he would help her sort her tomes just to spend time with her? He wasn’t exactly as manly as the other fighters with the Shepherds.

The twinkling stars above her head were some of the only light they had, besides the small torches placed randomly around camp. It was pretty late, at least late enough for her to have to strain her eyes at the inky black sky. Henry’s grasp on her hand loosened as he neared his destination with her following close behind.

“[Name], come here [Name]!” Henry called and kneeled down on the ground, still holding her hand. He stopped directly in front of his tent.

[Name] raised an eyebrow in confusion and leaned in closer to him. “Hello? Henry I’m right here.” Now she was sure he had gone bonkers.

“Hehe, I’m not talking about you, silly!” Henry cracked up. A small puppy with (h/c) fur came out from the tent flaps, shyly sniffing the ground. “See? This is [Name] too! I named it after you,”

[Name]’s eyes widened and she suddenly became flustered. Her cheeks flamed bright red to the tips of her ears and she brought her coat hood up to hopefully conceal the blush.

    “Y-you did?”

Henry brought his finger to his chin and thought for a moment. “Well, I thought this puppy was adorable, just like you! And I love dogs, and I love you, so I thought it was a good idea!” he blurted out, without as much as a second thought. The puppy known as [Name] licked the tactician’s open hand and nudged its’ muzzle into her leg.

    “You love m-me?” she repeated.

“Nya ha, ‘course I do! I thought I was making it obvious, [Name]! Dear Naga, you can be pretty crazy sometimes! But that’s why I love you,” he leaned in and scooped her into his arms, only to nuzzle his cheek against hers in an act of affection. All the tactician could do was blush. She was completely shocked that the young mage reciprocated the feelings. And he had been dropping hints the whole time!

I wonder if Tharja noticed… [Name] shuddered at the thought of Tharja’s threats towards Henry.

“W-well, I love you too…” [Name] uttered the words into his chest, still trying to hide her embarrassment.

The puppy crawled up on her knees and licked her chin.

“I think [Name] likes you, [Name]! Nya ha, do you think that’ll cause some confusion around camp?”

[Name] chuckled and nodded. “We should name it something else, Henry.”

By those words, Henry pouted and shook his head defiantly. “Nope! It’s staying [Name].”

    “Ugh… fine.”

    I can’t believe I love this idiot…
